We suggest staying away from Tijuana through Ensenada due to crime.  Do not drive Highway 1 through this area after dusk.  Our top choices for driving across the border, parking in Baja and starting rides are: Rancho Santa Veronica (best), Santo Tomas, and if you are going further south with Volume 2: San Felipe.  We offer secure places to leave vehicles and great route loops from each location.  The guidebook will tell you all the info you need about where to stay, phone numbers for reservations, etc.  Check the guidebook ratings and mileage to make sure you are prepared for these suggested routes.

2 Day Short Loop:  Starting at Rancho Santa Veronica:

Day 1: Santa Veronica to Laguna Hanson: VRLH-S (partly single track) or substitute for VRLH-M (all 2-track)

Day 2: Laguna Hanson to Ojos Negros (lunch): LHON then Ojos Negros to Santa Veronica: VRONrev

*or reverse this idea going from Santa Veronica to Ojos Negros to Santa Veronica

3 Day Loop:  Starting at Rancho Santa Veronica:

Day 1: Santa Veronica to Mike's Sky Rancho (takes 3 routes): VRLH-S or VRLH-M to LHVT1&2 to VTMK

Day 2: Mike's to Santo Tomas (takes 3 routes): VTMKrev to VNVTrev to TMVNrev

Day 3: Santo Tomas to Santa Veronica: ONTMrev to VRONrev

5 Day Loop:  Starting at Santo Tomas:

Day 1: Santo Tomas to Mike's Sky Rancho: TMVN to VNVT to VTMK

Day 2: Mike's to Gonzaga: VTMK to VTMT to MTPR to PRGN

Day 4: San Felipe to Laguna Hanson: MTFLrev to VTMTrev to VRLHrev

Day 5: Laguna Hanson to Santo Tomas: LHON to ONTM
